Since the beginning of my program at Centennial one major concept has been embedded into my brain – branding. Whether in Canadian Business, Event Management or Communications Management, it is clear that branding is an important part of any communication aspect.
When recently asked to define my own brand identity I was stumped. What makes me unique? After careful thought this is what I came up with….
I am a creative, design oriented communications professional. My passion for interior design and event management translate into my every day tasks. I am dedicated to creating an overall experience, paying careful attention to the small things and managing every last element of a project. I am very thoughtful, sparing no detail and am passionate about branding in order to create one underlying company image.
Recently, I worked for a client developing and promoting on overall brand image of her expanding small business. This project included the creation of a website, brochure and business card. It began with some basic ideas from the client, and developed into a business focused on the homemade, personalized experience of baking cakes, cupcakes and cookies for potential customers. Rooted in a soft batter-like colour scheme, with girly details and cheeky content Mangia Cake can be described in three words – lovely, cheeky and unique. Each element of the project is a reflection of these characteristics.
While I can’t take credit for all the ideas (my client happens to be a very talented, creative friend of mine) I must admit the whole process was exciting. From the font characters, to the song choices, to the web content – I became addicted to updates. Every last detail was carefully thought out and tailored to suit the purpose of the business. This is branding in a nutshell!
This project and my courses at Centennial have made me realize I’ve always been a “brander.” Whether it’s a school assignment, decorating my bedroom, or hosting a party I love being thoughtful and creating the big picture. It’s something that is important to me.
